Provide specific technical tooling and process expertise for new components and projects, with responsibility for component / tooling feasibility, material selection, introduction of tooling, including process development, up to PSW phase of NPI

IF YOU ARE ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT...

  • Responsible for the delivery of new product designs, from the concept stage through to finished products ready for manufacture
  • Responsible for those product designs being feasible for both tooling perspective and design for manufacture
  • Establish tool information (size, runner system, number of cores etc.) at quotation phase of program and maintain cost walk document through development phase
  • Drive creative thinking, ensure customer needs are considered and collaborate with the operations team to ensure products are designed for efficient manufacture
  • Responsible for the maturation of IM tooling feasibility and design content from concept through to delivery into manufacture, using innovative engineering skills to ensure seamless integration
  • Very hands on position, demanding high levels of creativity and flexibility. Work on many phases or sub-tasks of large projects working under instruction of the Head of Engineering
  • Support the management of all Design activities including Request for Quotations (RFQs), Design freeze / release, Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Design Verification/Product Validation (DV & PV) testing and Computer-aided engineering (CAE)
  • Present design, costs, changes & budgetary information effectively to senior management & customers, and provide regular progress updates as required
  • Support initial feasibility studies
  • Conceptualise new designs and design revisions
  • Improve reliability performance to reduce or eliminate warrantable issues in the field
  • Deal with parts suppliers, involving Purchasing where necessary
  • Support design in-line with UK/EC/International standards and legislation
  • Support the creation of 2D and 3D CAD to produce designs, drawings and models
  • Analyse & resolve issues (for example stresses) using tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
  • Prototyping
  • Drive forward product development, innovation and ‘think outside the box’ to generate engineering advantage for customers, thinking creatively to develop new/improved solutions
  • Identify and implement design improvements (functionality, cost, tooling & DFM)
  • Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions required
  • Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors
  • Embrace and champion continuous improvement

...AND POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS?

  • Degree-qualified in a relative-Engineering discipline
  • 10+ years in automotive Injection Moulding tooling introduction
  • 5+ years in a Product-Development Engineering position
  • 5+ years in plastics NPD / NPI, preferably within a Tier-1 IM manufacturer
  • Proficient in viewing CAD in Catia and/or SpinFire, Etc
  • Good understanding of Moldflow & CAE tools
